PocketMoney 1.0 beta 5

Public beta of PocketMoney for Windows/OS X.

PocketMoney 1.0 beta 5

Postby HardyMacia » Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:15 pm

NOTE: BETA versions are still buggy and often incomplete apps. While you can buy the app now, (and of course I appreciate it) there will be no refunds because of bugs or features missing. If these are concerns of yours then you probably shouldn't be beta testing the app.

Users on the PocketMoney for iPhone beta list should be able to sync with this PMD 1.0b5.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a backup copy of your PocketMoneyDB.sql file separate from what you sync back and forth with while testing.

The goal for the desktop app is to give you a place that you can sync your PocketMoney iPhone data between multiple users or just as a backup for your iPhone data. The goal for this beta is to give you most of what you need to view your data and edit most of it in a desktop app.

Getting Started:
1. Download and install desktop software.
2. Use SyncDocs or Web Browser to backup your PocketMoneyDB.sql file to your desktop.
3. Make a backup copy of PocketMoneyDB.sql - just in case.
4. Open PM for Desktops and open the PocketMoneyDB.sql file.
5. You should see all of your data.
6. Have at it.

Report bugs to:
The PocketMoney portal to submit bugs/required features is here:
http://pocketmoney.portal.codespaces.com/
This is different than my bug reporting site, but use new site to report bugs so they can go directly to the developer who is creating the desktop software.

You can also access this from the Help menu in PocketMoney Desktops.

Backup before testing:
Since you will be using your PocketMoneyDB.sql backup file to test the desktop version, you should make another copy of PocketMoneyDB.sql incase something happens while testing the desktop software.

Main fixes for this beta are:
• Linux version
• Added Report Bugs option to Help menu -- please use this to report everything you find now.
• Initial reports
• Fixed a lot of little bugs that caused crashes when you tried to do things after creating a new database.

Do you think PMD will reach GM status in time for the release of iOS PM 3.1?

Doubtful, but it could. There is some syncing that needs to be fixed in PMD, but at this point I think the development can continue on PMD even after PM 3.1 is submitted and approved, so I'm going ahead with the PM 3.1 submission so users that want to sync iphone-to-iphone/ipad can.

If you downloaded beta 5 for OS X before the posting of this message, then please download it again because you got beta 4 still. I just uploaded the beta 5 for OSX. (Windows and Linux were uploaded correctly earlier)

Just downloaded it and got my db uploaded. Looks great!! Only problem I've found is that none of my pictures have transferred. That said, I can only say that once you get this worked out this will be the best thing ever. Also, can I go ahead and buy the desktop version now? If I can, will be lifetime updates? If I can buy it, you'll have my money before the day is out Hardy!

Hi Hardy,

Regarding PMD Beta 1.5b, I noticed that the dates (specifically 12/XX/09 XX=Double Digit Day) the 9 in 09 gets bumped down over the First Letter of ID Field. Should be easy to fix, just need to widen the Date/ID column a bit.

Also, how does one get the iPhone Beta in order to use the sync with PMD? I've been waiting for this feature forever and would love to help you out testing.

Thanks Hardy!

Yes, the cloums should have sliders at the top so they can be moved individualy.

You can see here what I'm talking about:

The whole interface does not look like a Mac-App to me. I looks like a ported app from Windows.
:(

Also it is kinda slow.

Ok enough negative feedback. I will see if I buy it.

Hi -
I thought I had a handle on what was going on in the world of PM but I seem to have got confused again.

If I want to synch PM for iphone with PM for iPad what configuration do I need.

I presumed that I would need PM desktop + some forthcoming update to PM? However I am wondering now if in fact the PM desktop is actually needed just to sync between the two devices.

Could someone please help clear up my confusion?

Many thanks

The pictures will sync when you sync from your iPhone directly to PMD.

You can buy the desktop version now. I'm not going to promise life time updates, but I am fairly generous with my updates. Version 2.0 might be an paid update, but the overall price for the app will also be rising for new purchasers once features are in line with iPhone version. So upgrades for 1.x will be free, but 2.0 will be a paid update. 2.0 will probably offer online banking support.

No room in beta testing right now. I need to clean out some of the old testers that aren't opening my beta emails any more to add new people. You can send me your UDID to support@catamount.com and I might be able to add you to beta list, but no guarantees right now.

Hardy,
I just downloaded the latest PMD dmg and installed it on my iMac. I did a Get Info and it said that it was version 1.0.0 rather than 1.0.0b5. So is this the GM version I downloaded? If so, I'll purchase it; if not, I'll wait for the GM version before I purchase PMD.
Sincerely,

No PocketMoney desktop is not needed.

PocketMoney 3.1 will include the PocketMoney Sync Client as part of free upgrade to 3.1.

iOS device to iOS device - will need PocketMoney 3.1 and the PocketMoney Sync Server which is an In-App-Purchase (~$10).

iOS device to PocketMoney Desktop - will need PocketMoney 3.1 and PocketMoney Desktop 1.0 ($20 - after trial period ends). The In-App-Purchase for PocketMoney Sync Server on the iOS device is not required.
